Privacy Policy
What this app collects, why it collects it, and what you can ask us to delete.
This policy covers the iOS app AdGuard VPN: Router Setup and its pages on adguard.space. The app is published by the developer shown on its App Store page ("we", "us"). It helps you set ad-blocking DNS on your router and devices with guides, checklists, saved setup plans, troubleshooting and an optional AI assistant.
"VPN" is part of the brand name only. The app has no VPN, tunnel or proxy function and uses no Network Extension, so it collects, uses and shares no VPN data. It does not scan Wi-Fi networks, join networks, read your location, contacts or photos, show ads, or track you across apps and websites. There are no accounts and no analytics.
Data that stays on your device
- Setup plans you create: router brand, model, firmware version, internet provider, connection type, IPv6 and
DNS choices, checklist progress and any AI tips saved into the plan.
- The assistant conversation you have in the app.
- Preferences: appearance, sounds, haptics and whether you allowed AI answers.
- Filtering check results. The check looks up a few well-known ad and tracker host names through your device's
normal DNS; the results are shown to you and not sent to us.
This data is stored in the app's own storage with iOS file protection. We cannot see it. Settings → Delete data on this device removes plans, the conversation and preferences; deleting the app removes them too.
The AI assistant and plan tips
AI features send text off your device only after you allow it. The first time you ask a question or request plan tips, the app explains what is sent and asks for your permission. You can withdraw it at any time in Settings → Allow AI answers; guides, checklists and plans keep working without AI.
When AI answers are allowed, a request contains:
- your question and the earlier messages of the current conversation, and the app language;
- for plan tips, or when you pick a plan in the assistant: that plan's router brand, model, firmware version,
internet provider, connection type, IPv6 and DNS choices, and checklist progress including the current step.
Our server passes this text to OpenAI, whose model writes the answer, and returns the answer to the app. Our server does not store your questions or the answers, and nothing is used for advertising or tracking. OpenAI processes the text under its own terms to produce the answer. Please do not type passwords, Wi-Fi keys or other personal details into a question.
For the daily limit (25 answers per day) and to prevent abuse, our server keeps a record of each AI request without its text: an opaque request ID, the install ID described below, the type of request, the date and time, and whether it succeeded.
Install ID and request signing
To protect the AI service from copied traffic and misuse, the app creates a random install ID and a signing key on your device. The private key stays in the device's Keychain (the Secure Enclave when available) and never leaves the device. When you open the assistant, the app registers the install ID, the public half of the key, the app version and the platform with our server, which uses them to verify signed requests and to count your daily allowance. The install ID is not linked to your name, e-mail address or Apple ID.
Short-lived technical records are removed in routine cleanup: one-time request values after about an hour, and rate-limit counters after about two hours. Rate limits use a shortened one-way hash of your IP address rather than the address. Our application logs record the operation, a result code and an opaque request ID, never your questions or answers.
Reports about AI answers
If you report an answer, the app shows exactly what will be sent: the reported text, the reason you pick and an optional note, with the request ID and install ID. We keep reports to review the quality and safety of AI answers. Reports do not need AI permission and never go to OpenAI.
Web pages and the welcome screens
The welcome page saves its reached step and reading positions in local WebKit storage on your device, scoped to this app and the exact flow content within an isolated, non-persistent welcome-page session. A retry in that session can restore them without replaying completion. Switching to another app keeps the mounted page and its reading position. Final completion or closing that welcome-page session discards the record; a new session starts fresh.
The welcome screens shown when the app first opens, and this website, are served from adguard.space. As with any web request, our hosting and network providers process your IP address and basic device information to deliver the page and the app's server requests. The welcome screens and these pages contain no analytics or tracking. The app tells the welcome page the app identifier, your language, the platform and a display option. It also sends a single success marker only when native readings confirm both a Russia App Store storefront and active cellular service. Individual check results remain on your device and are not sent. The checks do not read carrier information or an Apple account identifier, and do not inspect receipts, provisioning profiles, Simulator status or installed apps. One bounded snapshot is kept in memory while the app runs and is reused for welcome-page retries. The marker is sent only to the app's own welcome page, with no analytics or separate reporting request. It does not identify a person or grant access to any feature.
On the first launch only, confirmed check results may permit a native invitation to rate this app. Declining or dismissing it changes no feature access. Accepting requests Apple's native review interface; Apple decides whether to display it. A durable local handled marker prevents later invitations and survives app updates. These observations do not establish who is using the app or why.
Support requests
If you write to us through the support page, we receive your name, e-mail address, subject and message, and use them only to answer you.
Who receives data
- Our hosting and network providers deliver adguard.space and carry the app's requests to our server.
- OpenAI processes AI request text to write answers, only after you allow AI answers.
- We do not sell or rent personal data and do not share it with advertisers or data brokers.
Legal bases
We process AI request text on the basis of your consent, which you can withdraw in Settings at any time. We process install registration, request records and short-lived technical records to provide the features you use and, in our legitimate interest, to keep the AI service secure and within its daily limits. We load the welcome page to introduce the app. We process support requests to answer you.
Your choices and rights
- Allow or withdraw AI answers in Settings → Allow AI answers.
- Delete the plans, conversation and preferences on your device in Settings → Delete data on this device, or by
deleting the app.
- Ask us to access or delete data we hold, or raise a privacy question, through the support page. Because the
install ID is not linked to your identity, tell us enough to find the records, for example the text of a report you sent. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
The app is a general-audience utility. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data.
Security
All connections use HTTPS. Requests to our server are signed with the per-install key and checked for replay. Data on the device is protected by iOS file protection and the Keychain.
Changes to this policy
If our practices change, we will update this page before the new version of the app ships. The current version is always available at this address.
